MAIN WEBSITE CATEGORY - Vocabulary Builder

Language Guide EspanolThis is a pretty basic but useful website for beginners that want to build their stock vocabulary and also need to hear the words to know how to pronounce them correctly. There are vocabulary lists that run through – the alphabet, greetings, numbers, the body, colors, family, men’s and women’s clothing, fruit and vegetables, farm animals, pets, zoo animals, vocabulary for all rooms of the house, home, school, work and occupations, medical, sports, plants, around town, driving, and many others.

Each vocabulary list has the Spanish word or phrase and the English translation. When you run your mouse over the Spanish word, or the picture, you will hear the correct translation of the word. You can use this site to practice your pronunciation by listening and repeating the words as you hear them. It is not the most impressive of websites, but it does offer some solid basics in vocabulary for beginners.

For further vocabulary and reading practice there are recipes and cultural information about where you can find Spanish schools around the world. This is a great site that you will return to again and again throughout your Spanish learning in order to build your vocabulary and practice your Spanish with authentic materials. Very highly recommended.

There are not only quizzes listed on the website, but a range of interactive games too. Some of the games and quizzes are aimed at children and some of them are aimed at adults. If you are a bit tired of staring at grammar tables and want something to liven up your study program, then this is a great website to check out.

There is a La Cucaracha animation and there are several hangman games too. Hangman covers Spanish numbers, countries, present tense, months, seasons and antonyms.

The games are interactive and although basic in content they are fun if you are just starting to learn Spanish and want something to help reinforce what you have learned. They can break up your Spanish study and make learning fun and stimulating. There are other sites that have more content, but this is a fun diversion from studying grammar tables for a moment in time.

Spanish ProgramsThis website has some links to some cool Spanish language games that you can load for free. The game graphics are pretty basic, but you can have some fun while practicing your Spanish skills in a different kind of way.

Besides links to the games there are also links to a pronunciation guide, worksheets, online dictionary and grammar training. Some of the resources will be very useful for some people and not so useful for others. This is a site that you are likely to only visit once, since there is not a whole lot of content on it, but it makes a fun distraction from more serious grammar study.

Elma EaglesThis is website provides a novel way to practice your verb conjugations. Through using the common kids’ game hangman, you can practice your verbs at Elma Eagles. First you click and choose your verb tense that you want to practice. They start with the present tense and continue increasing in difficulty. Once you have chosen your tense you go to the game instructions and press play. In this timed game you have to type in the correct verb conjugation onto the screen. When you get it right it you earn points, but you only have 30 seconds to get the answer right. If you run out of time, the website shows you the correct answer and then moves onto a new verb to test.

This is probably not a site that you will visit constantly, but it is certainly worth storing it in your cache of Spanish verb sites to practice with periodically.

You can select different categories of words to test yourself on including: basic words, words from school, around the house words, travelling, numbers and months, animals, people words and food words.

This website page is pretty basic and it won’t take you too long to exhaust the Spanish language options on it, but it is good short term fun to practice and extend vocabulary recall and spelling knowledge. Some words require the practice of unique Spanish letters such as the ñ, which is good for practicing writing.

Free LanguageFree Language has loads of free resources for learning Spanish and teaching it as well. There is a huge range of videos, articles, podcasts, links to social sites, translation services and more. Most of the resources are not produced by the website itself, but are taken from other sites or link to other sites. The value of this site really lies in that it links you to a whole lot of useful Spanish learning resources. The best way to find them is to click on the “more” tab at the top of the landing page and scroll down to the Spanish section.

One thing that could put you off the site a touch is the large amount of advertising that appears on the site. To some it could be a bit too busy visually and you may find it hard to locate the resources that are truly valuable among the ads for language software and Google ads all over the page. It is worth a look, but it is not the best of site on the Internet.
